(Hello)
Welcome to the website for Puentes: Foundation for Grassroots
Sustainable Development, a 501(c)3 non profit organization
dedicating to supporting grassroots development projects
in La Libertad, Peru.
I begin this update with a review of current events. Recently
a major Peruvian construction worker union went on strike.
Not wanting to be left out the competing union followed
course. The result of these labor actions is a complete
paralysis of all physical and electronic work which is visible
on your home or work PC as a lack of updates and the growing
piles of dust found on this website. However we at Puentes
don’t let these little things impede our work. Instead we
stare adversity in the face until it looks away. At that
point we kick it in the shins and laugh really hard.
But anyway, while we struggle to maintain our electronic
infrastructure here at our home page we can attest to an
update in our physical location. Puentes now has a real
office in a real city with a real business zoning code.
The proof of this action are the two nice ladies from the
public health administration in Peru who swung by the office
to ask if my health papers were up to date while I was writing
this. Our new location means two things. One: now, when
politicians and other important or self-important people
visit Puentes we can now invite them to coffee here instead
of going to a coffee shop. Our pockets like this. Secondly
we share an office with a library. Therefore the possibilities
of procrastination increase with every book that arrives
as well.
Returning to current events. Given the urgency of the labor
situation as well as our need to be in contact with you
we were forced to take matters into our own hands to get
electronic updates out there on, at least, a semi annual
basis. Therefore we are pleased to announce the opening
of www.chapolan-cachil.blogspot.com:
the home to all updates on our recently started program
to impede deforestation and environmental degradation in
Cachil forest, one of the most unique sites in La Libertad,
Peru. Our methodology in this program is sustainable economic
stimulus and general education. For more information on
this project please direct your attention to the blog site.
The site administrator is program director and poet Enrique
Plasencia. Given Enrique’s literary background if one can
read the page in Spanish their appreciation for the project
will grow considerably.
Speaking of Kike we are also pleased to announce that Puentes
has undergone its first turnover of board of directors in
a bloodless manner. After reviewing the requirements of
our organization the board of directors mutually agreed
that a change in faces was required. Therefore Gale Hansen
has agreed to step down from her post vacating it for Kike.
Kike’s biography can be found in the Who We Are section.
As stated, this turnover was brought about by mutual agreement
– or rather, we would prefer it. There is one problem. Our
outgoing board member, Gale, expressed concern about never
having been fired from a position. As she does not wish
to die before having the experience for being fired I, in
my position as president, have agreed to fire her. I close
this note by announced that Gale Hansen is fired to make
room for Kike’s ascension. Good riddance Gale.
Finally there is an open call for donations for the following
items:
1.) 2 Laptop Computers
2.) 6 Desktop Computers
3.) Clothing
For more information please contact me at adrazkowski@puentesngo.org.
For higher valued items the proper guarantees to use will
be put in place.
Thank you all and please direct your attention to the blog.
Once the labor strife settles expect the sounds of power
saws and heavy machinery to reverberate from this site once
more.
